About Nephrology Department
Kidney Diseases are one of
the most important non-communicable disease in the word and the alarming rise
of chronic kidney disease now a day’s causing a big burden for the country’s
economy even in developed country.
On this context in the year
2006 the department of nephrology has started her journey in our hospital to
treat the kidney disease patient.
We are delivering all
services to the kidney diseases patients through our indoor and outdoor
facility as well as renal replacement therapy by an expert and experienced
qualified team. We have just expand our dialysis unit with new 21 (twenty one)
dialysis machine recently. We have also dialysis facilities in ICU (Intensive
Care Unit).

Clinical Activities:
1. OPD services: 07 days in
a week run by Nephrologists.
2. Indoor services: 24 hours
admission facility
3. Dialysis: 24hr X 7d haemo
and peritoneal dialysis with ICU based dialysis
4. Intervention: Renal
biopsy and Central venous catheterization is routinely done for dialysis.
Academic Activities:
1.
The faculties are dedicated to undergraduate teaching and also take
part in the undergraduate and post graduate examinations of the university of
Dhaka as well as BMU
2.
Weekly intradepartmental CME on different important issues of kidney
diseases like case reports, death review and journal club etc.
3.
Routinely participate in local and international seminars and CME
programs.
Research Activities:
1. At least 2-3 research works are published in different journals. Till
now we have 30 publications in different national and international journals.
2. Ongoing Research:
a) Outcome of AKI due to
physical assault in a tertiary care hospital, Bangladesh.
b) Incidence of infection,
pattern and outcome of complications of Central venous (CV) line in hemodialysis
patient---A single center study.
Future Plan:
1.
To start Renal Transplant unit
2.
Post graduate training recognition in Nephrology by BCPS.
